Hi everyone! I know I haven't been blogging in a very long time. I haven't been crocheting or knitting much in quite a while either. I did pick up some needles today and started a dishcloth. :-)

Things are difficult at present with hubby laid off and my health as it is, but I hope to get back on the bandwagon soon. LOL! Sorry I have nothing to show for my time. I've been spending lots of time on Facebook and Pogo playing games. It's a good distraction. :-) Hope to have something to post soon. Greetings! I just finished this shawl for a friend's sick gram. It's called Connected Hearts Triangle Shawl and it is very easy and pretty. It's made with Caron Simply Soft in white and measures around 60" across and 30" deep. I added a picot edging. I hope her gram likes it. :) Thanks for looking. :)

Lookie, lookie what I got!!!! Dear Sherri from my Sky CAL group sent me the most wonderful gift. LOOK AT THE KITTY!!!! It's the cutest thing I've ever seen!! I LOVE him! I have an avatar on Crochetville of a little kitty that looks just like it. I can't believe she was able to do this. It's just way too adorable. Thank you soooooo much Sherri. The Sky ladies are having a KAL using the Learn to Knit Afghan Book. We're making one square per week but I joined in a little late so I have to catch up. Here are my first six squares. They ended up being about 9" square. I'm using RHSS in Aran, Buff, Ranch Red and Dark Sage and size 6 needles. I think it will be nice. I learned to knit when I was a little kid and I really don't do it much so this will be good practice for me. I decided to blow the dust off my needles and give it a shot. Wildlife Appreciation Day

Hello everyone! I have decided that today is Wildlife Appreciation Day at my house. I truly appreciate the entertainment that I get from my wildlife. I don't, however, appreciate the destructiveness. LOL! Today, Little Bear (our woodchuck) decided to have a tug-o-war with the tarp on my barn. You can see who won. LOL!

Then, I made the mistake of parking my car next to this cardinal's bush. He proceeded to attack it to no end. Evidently, he sees his reflection in it and is trying to protect his wife and kids (and his manhood) LOL!! I've tried moving my car but he already sees my car as the enemy. I guess this is what I'll have to put up with till breeding season is over.

He really is hilarious. He sees his reflection and flaps his wings and pecks. He sees himself in the side mirrors and goes nuts. I wonder if he realizes that the object is larger than it appears. LOL!! I'm afraid he'll hurt himself but I have to park somewhere. Of course, I need to rinse my car daily now. :( Thanks for looking and have a great day!! :)

Hello again! I just finished another lapghan for an elder at Pass Creek Elder Center on Pine Ridge Reservation. It's for the group Crafting for a Cause. This lapghan is called the Wool Eater Blanket (note that it is in British terms). I was enabled into making it after joining the Sky CAL at Crochetville. LOL! It's made it in the Lakota colors and it ended up being about 50" square. It came out a little warped but I hope some elder will still like it. Thanks so much for looking.

Ok, I thought this was just too funny so I thought I'd share my embarrasment. :) I joined the Sky CAL over at Crochetville last week. I'm speechless!!!! I received the most WONDERFUL gift today from Jana (one of the List Moms at Crafting for a Cause). I can't find words to express my awe and appreciation. It's the most beautiful afghan I've ever seen and the WORK that went into it is amazing. It's sooooooooo gorgeous and it matches my house perfectly! My bedroom is exactly the same colors as the 'ghan and my living room furniture is blue, too. It couldn't be more perfect. I'm deeply touched by Jana's thoughtfulness and generosity. I went to pick up the yarn this morning and was sorely disappointed. I'm getting pretty sick of not being able to buy yarn around here any more. They closed the AC Moore and Walmart has almost nothing. :( It's a total bummer. I'll have to find a place online. Anyway, there is a change of plans in the color scheme. I've chosen to do it in lavender, lt. sage and soft white. They seem to look nice together and I hope they look as nice in the 'ghan. So, that's all for now. Hello! I've been in agony the past few days. I have calcified bursitis in my hip and I haven't been able to walk. So, I started a new project. :) I can kinda walk today so I took a pic. Something good comes out of almost everything, huh? LOL!!!

Anyway, I made this chart myself. If you like it, feel free to take it. I hope it comes out as nicely as it did on paper. It will be a good size, too. Over 4 feet square. I'm planning on sending it to UC Davis (cancer center for children), one of the causes supported by Crafting for a Cause. I'll give more updates as I get more done.

I'm using RH Supersaver in rainbow colors and an H hook. I'm doing join-as-you-go so I don't have to sew this one. LOL! I also plan on doing a ruffly (is that a word? lol!) white border. Thanks so much for looking! :)

Baby Fishies - Corydoras panda?

Well, we have baby fishies ... again! We used to breed different fish (angelfish, corydoras, plecostomas, swords, etc. etc.) but it was soooooo much work so we stopped. But, as usual, the fish had other ideas. LOL! We have a 70 gallon tank (one of 18 tanks ranging in size from 225 gal to 5 gal) with assorted corydoras catfish and last week I found eggs everywhere! Being the nice mommy that I am, I couldn't leave them to be eaten so ... here we go again!!! LOL!!!

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure they're corydoras panda. Here's a link if you want to see what the parents look like. I couldn't find them to take a picture. The pic below represents about a third of the babies. I'm guessing there are 100-150. They're just starting to eat as you can see by the pink bellies. They're soooooo cute and so itty bitty. I need a magnifying glass to see them. Thanks for looking!!! :)

Well, I finally made something for myself. I needed a plastic bag holder for my master bedroom/bath area. I made this using the pattern Front Post Stripes Grocery Bag Holder. Hello!!! I can't believe it but I'm finally done with this quiltghan for Crafting for a Cause's Webstore. YATTA!!!! LOL!!! The pattern is called "Signs of Fall" and it's from A Year of Afghans 1998 by Leisure Arts. The pictures aren't the best but I did the best I could. It looks much nicer in person. Hello! I've been working on this quiltghan for Crafting for a Cause's Webstore. I finally got all the squares made and now all I have to do is sew it together, make the leaf stems and do the border! I'm really hoping to finish it by the end of the month. In case you can't tell, they're fall leaves. LOL! I know the dark ones look black but they're really dark brown. Learning to Fly with FlyLady!!

Hi everyone! It's been quite a while since I updated my blog. I have no finished projects to show so I wanted to share some info. I started flying with Flylady!!! Check out Flylady's site!!! I joined the Yahoo Mentor Group and it's going great so far! YAY!!!

I must say that I have never joined anything like this before. My house has always been pretty much in order and I don't have a weight issue so I really had no need. However, after getting sick about 6 years ago, I've found it more and more difficult to keep up with the house. I can only clean a little bit at a time which has been extremely frustrating. That leads to depression and it becomes a vicious cycle. Then, a friend told me about Flylady!!

Now I've only been involved for a few days BUT... my sink is shiny; I'm up and dressed; my bedroom is completely decluttered; my closet has a floor again; and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I feel better!!! I'm still doing baby steps but I see light at the end of the tunnel. It really is satisfying to have a plan and be able to do it, no matter how bad you feel. You can do it, a few minutes at a time.

Well, I just thought I'd share. Hopefully I'll have more projects done soon. I'll be participating in the March CAL at Crafting for a Cause, which will be baby stuff. That will be fun!!! Thanks for looking! :)

We had visitors today! A whole hoard of turkeys came to graze in our yard. They came so close to the house, I probably could have chased them and had a turkey dinner! LOL! Hi everyone! Crafting for a Cause's CAL for February is to make slippers, socks and hats. Here's what I have done so far. The first item is a pair of little girl socks made using a pattern written by Tina H. from our group. They are the cutest and easiest things to make!! The slipper socks were made using Ruby's Slippers pattern. They should fit an adolescent or womens small. I had never crocheted slippers or socks before so this is a totally new experience for me. Greetings! I have 2 more sets done for Crafting for a Cause's January Scarf CAL. These patterns are the same as previously posted. This scarf pattern came on the skein of Red Heart Bright & Lofty. It's called One Skein Scarf. The hat is the Chunky Cap.
This set is the Ugly But Warm Hat and a double crochet scarf to match. I still don't think the hat is ugly. LOL!

This last scarf was made by my dear friend Grannyannie for the reservation. Grannyannie is the founder of Compassionate Creations , a charity that gives scarves to victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. Thank you sooooo much, Ann! The scarf is beautiful!

Compassionate Creations - January Scarves (so far)

CFAC - January CAL (so far)

Hi everyone! Here is my first stuff of the new year. Actually, some of them were made in December but they won't go out till later this month. Crafting for a Cause is having a scarf CAL for January. Items will be send to Pine Ridge Reservation. Here's what I've done so far.

The first is a Hooded Scarf made from homespun.
I know it's not a scarf, but this is the Blue Jeans Shawl.

This set is made with red heart strata. It is the Basic Hat and the Plain & Simple Scarf.

This is the Twisted Cable Scarf. I just made it a little narrower. It has a headband to go with it that I'll try to get done later.

These last two sets are the Ugly But Warm Hat and a double crochet scarf to match. I don't think the hat is ugly at all. LOL! Plus, it's really nice and warm.

Thanks so much for looking!!!! I hope these help to keep some folks toasty warm. :)

I know it's been a while since I've posted but my husband has been sick since before Christmas and I've been trying to take care of him. He's starting to feel better so now I can concentrate on my 2009 charity goals.

First of all, I added up my charity donations for 2008. I made and donated a grand total of 1615 items!!! I was amazed. Granted, some of them were yoyos and saltines but taking them away, it's still over 1000 items. I'm very pleased with that!!!!

For 2009, I'll be concentrating on making scarves for Compassionate Creations and supporting Crafting for a Cause. Compassionate Creations gives scarves to victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. I hope to make 1 scarf every 3 days for an average of 10/month. Crafting for a Cause supports Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and UC Davis Cancer Center for children in California. I am the Crochet-a-Long Project Leader for this group and hope to make tons of stuff for all the places they support. I LOVE this group!!!

I also plan on making at least one blanket for Sissie's support of Victory Junction Gang Camp and will help out with whatever else comes up as much as possible. So, this is the plan. We'll have to see how far off I end up. LOL!!!

How NOT to Train a Cat

Hi everybody! I'm taking a few days off from crocheting so I thought I'd share my little story of "How NOT to Train a Cat". The first year we had our kitties, Dalamar & Kaz, we put up our Christmas tree as usual. They proceeded to climb it, knock everything off, and even run away with the lights. LOL! So, we took the tree down. I figured there had to be a way to train them. After all, my previous two cats, Spot & Zeb, never touched the tree and we had them for 20 years!!! So I racked my brain. That was my first mistake. LOL!

In a moment of brilliance...NOT...I figured that I'd give them their own tree and then they'd leave ours alone. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!!!!! Sooooo, you can imagine the outcome. LOL! Here are some pictures of how this training plan worked out.

First of all, here's Dalamar just loving HIS tree (with Kaz looking on).
He really loves HIS tree. LOL!

Now Kaz is resting under HIS blanket. LOL!

Here's this year's tree. As you can see, over the years they've trained us to put more of their "toys" on THEIR tree. They have packages, mice, milk tops, and all the other things they love. Every morning, I put their tree "back together". Needless to say, we haven't been able to put our tree up since!!! Don't try this at home. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!! :)

CFAC - Pine Ridge Blanket Drive #8

Hi again everybody! I finally finished my last blanket for Crafting for a Cause's annual blanket drive for Pine Ridge Reservation. This is my 8th and final blanket for the drive. I haven't decided where on the reservation to send them yet but I'll probably send some to the Elder Center and the rest to the Community.

Anyway, the pattern for this is found in Leisure Arts' small booklet called Scrap Wraps. However, it's just two round grannies and join as you go. I hope it helps keep someone warm this winter. :)
Oh, by the way, I got a brand new computer!!! I can't believe it but since Dell was unable to fix mine, the sent me a new one. It's wonderful!!!!!! I'm just so happy with it and am amazed that a company would do such a thing. I've bought my last 3 computers from them and will continue to buy from them. They're great!!!! It's a wonderful Christmas present!!!!

Compassionate Creations - December Scarves

These are my scarves for Compassionate Creations so far for December. I'd like to encourage everyone to consider making scarves for this great cause. They are given to victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. It's a way to give them a hug and let them know that they're not alone. This will be one of my top priorities for 2009. My goal is to make a scarf every 3 days.

CFAC - Pine Ridge Blanket Drive - #7

Hi everybody! Until the end of the year, Crafting for a Cause is having their annual blanket drive for Pine Ridge Reservation. Here's my 7th blanket. Numbers 4-6 are shown below in the Adopt a Family posting. This will be send to the grandma of the same family as the little girls that we adopted for the Adopt a Family for Christmas project.

Anyway, this is a quilt-type lapghan that I made using 2 round grannies and a join as you go method. I love the join as you go. No sewing!!!! This quilt pattern was taken from the traditional quilt square called Alabama. I hope grandma likes it. Thanks for looking. :) This is the chart that I made for this lapghan.

CFAC - Adopt a Family for Christmas

Crafting for a Cause is having "Adopt a Family for Christmas". I've been so excited about this. I told my hubby that this is what I want for Christmas. We both totally had a blast doing this. We adopted 3 little girls from Pine Ridge, ages 5, 4 & 1. I made each of them a blankie and made the older two a scarf, hat & mittens set. We got them each a learning toy and a fun toy. I really really hope they like this stuff. I don't have kids so I'm totally clueless about this stuff (plus it scares the crap out of me) LOLLLLL!! I'm planning on sending something to their grandma, too, even though she wasn't included in the list. I just haven't decided what to send her yet.

School Children in Kosovo

A fellow Crochetville member has asked for warm items for some school kids in Kosovo. These are the items that I'm sending. Most of the hats are the Basic Hat, the scarf is just dc, the mittens are from an old Workbasket magazine (Nov. 1994) but are very similar to Bev's Mittens. The pink hat in the center is from Crochet World, Feb. 2008 and I can't remember what pattern I used for the navy blue hat. Oh well, it sucks to get old. LOL! I hope the kids like them. :)

During the months of October & November, Crafting for a Cause has been having a Crochet-A-Long to make items for UC Davis Infusion Center, a treatment center for kids with cancer. I have already made the Spiderman RR and a Daisy Lapghan. Here are the rest of my items.

Here are the patterns for the frog finger puppet, the snowman finger puppet, the stuffed frog and the stocking.
The first is called Retro Wrist Bag and the 2nd is adapted from the Happy Hearts Purse. I also sent some coloring books and crayons. I hope the kids like everything. :)

First of all, I must say that I'll be very happy when I get my computer back. I've been without it for over 2 weeks now and am struggling to do everything!!!! It really sucks!!! I should get it back in another week or so. So, forgive me if the pics are terrible but I'm doing the best I can. LOL!!

FA Awareness Square Challenge - Day 5

Greetings everybody! Here are my squares from Day 5 of the FA Awareness Square Challenge. I'm still on track with my goal of 5/day. My total so far is 29. The patterns here are Fisherman's Ring, Krystal's Daisy Charity Square, Circle of Friends and a modified version of #16 from the book 101 Crochet Squares by Jean Leinhauser.

Compassionate Creations - October Scarves

These are my scarves for Compassionate Creations for October (so far). The first is a simple V-Stitch and the other two are MAM patterns.
These three are all simple double crochet using super bulky yarn.

Here are my squares from Oct. 2nd. The patterns are: Krystal's Daisy Charity Square, Fisherman's Ring, Fox's Simple Hearts Square, Victorian Flowers from Annie's Quilt & Afghan Club, and Contest Favorites Afghan Squares, #27, by Leisure Arts. Please note that I totally suck at taking pictures so it's a little blurry. Sorry about that. :( This brings my total to 12 so far. :)

FA Awareness Square Challenge

During the month of October, we are having the FA Awareness Square Challenge to make squares to benefit FA Research. The squares will be assembled into afghans and auctioned. I've set a goal of 5 per day for this month. I hope I can live up to it. LOL!

CFAC - Pine Ridge Blanket Drive - #1

Crafting for a Cause is having it's annual blanket drive for Pine Ridge Reservation. I just finished this lapghan to send. It's done in Lakota colors. I hope they like it. :) The pattern is called Love Affair and it's found in The Ultimate Book of Scrap Afghans by Leisure Arts.

Charitybandits - Afghans for Men

A fellow member of the group Charitybandits, is making afghans for a group of men. Here is the afghan that I sent. I also sent 70 - 8" squares but didn't take a picture. The pattern for this 'ghan is called Hugs & Kisses and is found in the book 40 Favorite Ripple Afghans by Leisure Arts. Note that this picture was taken before I weaved the ends in. lol.

Here are the last of my items for September's CAL at Crafting for a Cause. They'll be sent to the OB Unit on Pine Ridge Reservation. Here are the patterns for the blankie & hat, and the hoodie. I made another sweater set but it's way too big so it will be sent to PR Community instead.

Compassionate Creations - September Scarves

Here are my September scarves for Compassionate Creations. The 1st is a simple V-Stitch using Red Heart Strata yarn, the 2nd is from the book In Style Scarves, and the 3rd is a simple double crochet.
These are for adults. The 1st is a MAM pattern, the 2nd is was a freebie that I can't find any more, the 3rd is here and the 4th is a simple shell pattern.

Comfortghan Squares
